Over the years I have drawn and illustrated for different projects. I enjoy trying new styles and techniques. From monoprints to digital illustrations, sometimes illustrations add that extra personality to your project.

For my mom

It is difficult to understand how a depressed person experiences his environment, it might even be harder to understand the parent, or child of a mentally ill person.
While the articles tell some very personal stories with words, I translated these texts to illustrations. The results are strong individual images, leaving enough space for a personal interpretation.

Postnatal depression

Postnatal depressions happen more often than we are aware of. This individual story is about the nightmare of being institutionalised, isolated and separated from her newborn. For an editorial about a mothers' postnatal depression leading to a bipolar disorder. My illustration represents the downward spiral, with it's pink and black fases. The pink referring to the manic moments which might sometimes be experienced as blissful moments, followed by the black moments referring to the depression and institutionalised moments.

Sexuality and the elderly

People get uncomfortable talking about their parents or grandparents and sexuality. These subjects are easily avoided as they are taboo in many a culture. For an editorial, talking about elderly and sexuality, and the necessity to take off the stigma, I made this illustration.

Bio

Born to an artist and a scientist I was destined to dip my feet in both worlds. I have a strong curiosity for thorough research and setting clear objectives and goals, while at the same time leaving space for serendipity and surprises that might change the path we're walking on.

Talking with people, and actually listening to them, asking questions, finding out what drives them is what intrigues me. My empathy and curiosity led me to different fields and jobs, and I thrive in situations where I keep on learning and developing my skill set. I love learning new things, not just in one field. This resulted in a messy CV, but the way I look at it is that I have a lot of transferable skills.  At this moment I am looking to join a team where there is room for collaboration, growth and empathy.

In my free time I am currently learning Python. I take analog photos and enjoy live music* and dancing.
